So much depends on the species of bear. Eastern black bears are regarded as shy and will avoid people, so "bear bells" will keep them away, making a lot of noise will drive one away, but all bets are off if it's a sow with cubs. Grizzlies are dangerous. They have ripped their way into a tent and killed one or more humans who thought they might be safe. Polar bears are totally fearless and totally untrustworthy. All mammals are suitable food. Polar bear cubs hand-raised in a zoo since birth, once they reach a certain age will attack any human within reach.
Interesting... depends on the environment they're in as well... here, black bears are thought to be the ones more likely to attack, not to mention that in an actual attack (rather than a bluff charge) a black bear would be much more intent on killing you, rather than a grizzly who'll leave you alone after the threat is gone (just generalising here, definitely not always the case).

And polar bears... I'll just keep away from them...

I heard once that the way to tell Black Bear poop from Grizzly Bear poop is that the grizzly poop has bits of bear bell in it

This is an old shot of a Black Bear, taken with the K3 AND DA*300M (from a car, of course).

You guys should watch Werner Herzog's documentary Grizzly Man, which is about bear dinner enthusiast Timothy Treadwell.

I'm impressed the sparrow remained still long enough for 1/60s shutter to result in a sharp photo.
I press the remote button as they come in to land at the feeder and hold it down with the K-3 on high speed. There is usually (not always) a clear shot like this as they land and freeze.

We find the dark back yard a bother. Can't get much sun tanning in either. The trees behind have grown so much (30 feet or 10 meters by guess) since we moved in in 1982 that a 16 foot (5 meter) pole at the peak of the roof wasn't enough for a satellite dish to see the satellite reliably. We have since gone to cable for internet and TV. When we first moved in satellite was faster.

Honestly, luck has not much to do with it, money is the key to this lens... They still sell for almost what I paid for my copy in 1988...although I did get a matching 1.4XL [it was matched to those star special order lenses back then] and a 145 mm front uv filter. The filter was $325 bucks back then...

Okay, you've probably had enough bears by now... I didn't hang around to say hello to the mother...

I don't think you have to worry, momma is self isolating like the rest of us.

Nice selection of photos - a good day's shooting.
Yes. It was a good day. Too bad I didn't take my 500mm with me.

Even if you have the money, it is difficult to find a copy...

SMC A ☆ 400 F2.8 ED[IF] with Pentax F 1.7 AF adaptor. Thunder storms [4 1/2 inches in 3 hours + tornado watch] and hail here today so I got home early enough to get some photos as it was raining off and on at my house... For the roadrunner juvenile on the rock wall I added the 1.4 XL to get to 952mm. Un-cropped. I needed more light, [this lens loves ISO 100-400 so no super high ISO for me if possible] .....maybe some vibration from me and camera but I like it. The other young one is racing to get under my trailer as it started raining!

I've found it does quite well at high ISO but then I use it for astro and run it regularly at 1600 or 3200 but have gone as high as 12800.

A better statement from me would have been “ the owner of this lens likes ISO 100-400 “. Haha!

I do as well but for what I'm doing I would need to throw a lot more gear at the problem to get exposures long enough to do that.

Well I went back and reprocessed my moon shots taken at 2000mm and F/20 with the MTO 1000mm f/10 and old 2x teleconverter.

This is 329 shots with each one having the following stats:
Camera: K-3
Lens: MTO 1000mm f/10 + old Soligor M42 2x converter
Effective f/20
ISO 100
1/40s

And so you can see a full upscaled (with that many shots I figured why not try a super res shot) 100% crop from the resulting 144 MP image:
