We have a bald eagle in our neighborhood, but it doesn't seem to get in photo range. We occasionally see it fly from one area of cover to another. The turkey vultures are much more obliging, not that I have gotten a good picture of them yet.

Nice detail on the Cedar waxwing. It seems that it is hard to capture feather detail on them, judging from most images I've seen. I've never had opportunity to image one. Maybe someday...

Great detail. It would be interesting to see what you could do with an extension tube!

I appreciate your input. Thank you. Yeah, my baby goose picture attracts more faves than the bald eagle photos over in Flickr Back to lens discussion. Below was shot with K3 and DA300+HD DA 1.4TC. Couple of frames between number 3 and number 4 was slightly out of focus. Will K-new be able to drive the DA300 any faster and more accurate? Or upgrading to the 150-450 necessary to see a noticeable difference? How would you spend your money, K-new OR 150-450? I appreciate any opinion. thank you

Very nice. I'm wondering, are you cropping these or were you that close...600mm equivalent still need to be pretty close for these. I'm seeing allot of great stuff (like these) from this lens combo.

There's an unusual number of bald eagles in our area this year. Its hard to believe the population grew so much in a year. May be its the global warming thing Most of my eagle shots are heavily cropped but this one flew by pretty close. I don't know the technical way to express the crop, but picture number 4 is cropped from 6016 to 4810 pixels on the long side. And thank you for the kind words

Was fortunate to capture this curious sparrow at Vinous Breasted Starling's nest.

Not much cropping if at all. I'm in Syracuse NY and we had one of the most polluted lakes (Onondaga) in the US. The state has been working on it for probably 50 yrs and it's gotten much better. Now at one end of the lake there are Bald Eagles nesting and you can see them all the time. I think being a protected species and overall environment improvement is the reason. It's nice to see.

It's possible there could be some improvement in AF tracking with the DA* 300 with the K-new, but I wouldn't be too confident on that. The focus motor on that lens is rather slow. I never even bother to shoot anything moving with my DA* 300, whether with the K-5iis, the KP, or the K-1.

I did add a fair amount of sharpening in LR.

Here's an egret looking for a meal. Shot with DA* 300 + DA 1.4x. Sharpening to Topaz Sharpen AI:

Slim pickings of the "keepers" today... even after I discovered you can zoom in on live view to check focus.

This about sums the day up:

Thank you so much for your input. I love the DA300 I hope Ricoh will update with the modern SDM and rounded blades. I use it for flowers and occasional landscapes and nightscapes too

I like this one best of the several from this photo-op that you've posted.
