However, the one chick that resulted has been very shy, spending most of its time over the past 3-4 weeks under mother's wing. It only ventured out during the last few days prior to fledging, but I managed a few shots, notwithstanding the interfering sticks and branches. Frogmouths are a type of nightjar or nighthawk, hunting for insects at night and roosting throughout the day.

K1ii & DFA 150-450, except the night shots with the DA* 300mm
Great set indeed. They're very nice birds, even when they aren't that colourfull. I best like the ones with the chick looking in the camera.

KP with DFA 150-450
Male downy woodpecker on a spruce limb.
Female belted kingfisher a good 50 meters away in a tree. Heavy overcast lighting. Near 100 percent crop.

An excellent series! They are strange looking birds. I will consult "Dr. Google" to find out more about them.
Best.

Very nice action images; I really like the way, in the first image, the eagle looks so focussed on more important things than that photographer.

I can imagine; when I see the stuff you photograph at the lake, that is a true hotspot for nice photography.

Thanks, but I'll have to confess that the raw file wasn't as nicely exposed as this, and darktable really deserves the compliments

Cheers,
Terry
