Actually the second photo seems to have signs of moire. I don't remember ever encountering this in the 6 years that I have had cameras without AA filters. Amazing resolution for a consumer lens.

I feel the same way.

Sometimes they follow me when I am grubbing out weeds - looking for prey. You might see them in picnic areas in parks and reserves, often perched sideways on a tree. But while they are friendly, it is always on their terms. Yellow robins always seem focused, literally and metaphorically. They are the first to call in the morning (their genus, Eopsaltria, means "dawn harpist") and the last in the evening. They seem purposeful and single-minded about everything they do, whether it is perching ...

.... feeding

... or bathing

(1. K-3 + FA*300. 2. K-3 + DA-L 55-300. 3. K-3 + Sigma 400 f5.6. Might have been posted before.)

They are very charismatic. You can see why I chose one for my avatar.

This video gives a sense of their personality.

Long-tailed Parakeet, personally not seeing this bird for about two years during my walkabout. Taken with my KP and the DFA 150-450mm.

Thanks Albert! The Long-tailed and the Rose-ringed are harder to spot nowadays, compare to the Red-breasted Parakeet.

Striking image - well done. I like "treed" as a verb too.

Very good results with those parameters.

Eastern Yellow Robins. KP + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm

X-posted from the yard birds thread.
Wonderful detail in those captures! The beak looks a bit shrike-like.
Best.

Thanks Stan. Although the English settlers called them robins, they are not in the same family - very different from the robin you posted above!
There is so much confusion - here in North America we have robins, sparrows, warblers, orioles, flycatchers, redstarts....none of them closely related to their European namesakes.

I have seen this Snowy Owl several times this winter, sitting on a marina dock out of range for a photo. Finally it decided to be a bit more cooperative.

Sam smith park? In the swallow field? Or perhaps on the kestrel box after a second look

Here she is on the usual place, cropped using DA560

I think it must be your "kestrel box", at the base of the point, where the trails converge near the corner of the Marina impoundment. I have tried taking shots of owls on the Marina docks, but at 180-200 yards away it's not really worth it with my equipment. I like it when I feel I'm engaging a bit more with the bird I'm photographing - if I go enough times, once in a while I can find the owls in other locations. This was 2019, on the grebe nesting raft nearby.

Little Corella.
A small flock of these codgers turned up just around sunset, so the light wasn't too good, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Very nice, especially with those eyes!
