Fantastic snap!

Is this background blur as it is by the lens (ie no pp on "smoothening" the blur)?
Thanks.
The background hasn't been doctored.
[edit] Oops, forgot that I did remove a bit of background above the bird, but that was only a small area.
Cheers,
Terry

Most would regard these birds as not as elegant, graceful and pretty as those in the previous post.

Reminds me of driving some of the back roads of India where they have offal yards where people bring their dead animals. There are always flocks of several different kinds of vultures hard at work, not at all frightened of humans when they approach.

That reminds me of the serialized TV version of Jewel in the Crown when the old lady was looking out at a tower atop which human remains were deposited for the vultures and ravens to recycle.

I saw one of those in Bombay, India, as well where the Parsis/Zorastrians place their dead to be consumed by vultures. There are problems now because the vultures almost disappeared from consuming cattle flesh containing some sort of deadly chemical, and are only now being slowly brought back after the outlawing of the cattle chemical.

Sharing a sad tragic drama about the Banded Woodpecker nesting invaded (on Feb 15th) by the Common Myna few days ago. The elder chick successfully fledged and now accompany by the parent. But the younger chick fell into the pond and eaten up by the monitor lizard. The Banded woody nesting at the local wetland park has been attracting a lot of wildlife photographer over the last two weeks. Before that, I was capturing the feeding moments in an earlier day (Feb 14) and already seeing the myna harassing the chicks, the mum came and fight with the myna.

Feeding moment after the long wait.

Mike: Mum...the bad guy is coming!!!!

Mum: Don't worry Mike....wait a minute...

Sad and I believe this is what a nature calls Ken

Great that the elder chick escaped and hope it can stay stronger.

Very sad story, Luis - but some spectacular photography work here by you. Excellent images, really catching the story and the drama.
