Yes, the lens itself should be pretty sharp, but the Vivitar 2x not so much. That's a daunting combo to use.

Two juvenile bald eagles from Saturday.

First is with the K 500/4.5 @ f/8 + A 1.4x-L, second is bare lens, also f/8.

I shot these from my car, using a ball head on the door window sill to support the lens.

I thought I would share a few pictures of my car window setup. Overall I think the Kirk version one has a slight edge over the Eckla mount for stability.

I agree, and no one will give me a mortgage; I'll be 81 in June. I'm too slow to get away after robbing the bank. I have to go cry into my pillow now ...

Just for fun.

I've been thinking of doing this for a while. This is the Australian $10 note, the face is that of A.B. (Banjo) Paterson who amongst other things wrote poem "The Man From Snowy River". I knew that on the old paper $10 note this poem appeared in the micro text but hadn't found it on the newer plastic note, I have now. To give you an idea of the size of this text, I can't read it without magnification (the magnifying glass on a Swiss Army Knife will do it), it's about 0.2-0.3mm high.

Anyway, first up is a shot from the K3, DA*300 combo at about 1.8 metres resized to 1354x900 followed by a 100% crop at the same size then followed by the same with the Tamron-F 1.4 TC.

It’s funny but I have never seen a $10 in the wild!

Interesting example of how a TC does not seem to hurt resolution

That certainly has been my experience. My understanding of optics is very limited but I gather that's explained to some extent by the fact that the TC is enlarging the "sweet spot".

Well, it was in the back yard and unattended at times

It does to some degree but that is perhaps offset by spreading the image over more pixels (or that's what I keep telling myself). It also gives the AF a bigger target (but you lose some light). Anyway, for the $100 odd it cost me I'm happy.

This shot used the same combo, I doubt if I could have focused on the Goshawk without the TC. And as you can see from the crop if can resolve the pupil of a Goshawk at about 275 metres Of course, the Goshawk can probably resolve my pupil at well over 1000 metres so my equipment is lagging a bit.

This is cool. And my post is irrelevant. But I immediately thought after reading inscriptions on the $10 note of Riders in the Sky. Three of these four have masters degrees, or doctorates from America's top universities. One of them was on the front end of "Paul is dead," hoax of the late 1960s, while he was in college at the University of Michigan. The 4th musician / vocalist is an accomplished musician. This is the "Cowboy way," as is your $10 note.
