Not a bad idea to take the camera with you to lunch.

The bird in the second shot looks like a grebe. Not sure which species.

Some wading bird (I still need to find out which), taken with the M300/4* at the Lauwersmeer.
Looks to me like a Ruff - small head, short bill, yellow legs, unusual colouring. The colour varies - I saw a white one at a distance last time I was in UK and was trying to figure out what kind of gull it was.

A few notables at the park today. This Green Heron caught and swallowed down a fish (pumpkinseed I think) right in front of us.

Also a good view of a Blue-winged Teal:

After taking the Teal shots I checked my email and found that my new K-3 III had arrived and was waiting for pickup. I restrained myself and we checked out the Grebe raft before calling at the camera store on the way home. The grebes (which now have three eggs) were having some trouble with an unusually strong wind out of the north.

The conditions for all of these shots were a bit marginal in terms of low light and / or distance, and I 'm hoping the new camera will give me a bit more latitude.

You are a strong-willed person.

Apple blossom? (Not that I am a horticultural expert).
Lovely images.
Thank you! The arcane knowledge of horticulture is a mystery to me, also, but I believe they are pear blossoms.

Gary - a truly excellent set of captures. I am very envious.

Nice catch. Looks like some Tringa species.
Please try Merlin bird app in mobile. Share photo to it and it identifies quite well.
Thanks, I'll try that!

Thank you, you’re right. In my language (German) it‘s called Haubentaucher and the scientific term is podiceps cristatus.
BTW, we had been on a hike and this time I was lucky to have the camera with me while waiting for lunch on the restaurant terrace
