Green Heron taken today with the K-3III at ISO 6400. Minimal post processing, no de-noise, uncropped.

ISO performance looks great on the K3 III.

Thanks Swip - I notice that for High ISO Noise Reduction the default setting on the camera is "Auto" - not sure how much difference that would have made. It's a voyage of discovery!

Edit: I found this video by Kobie M-C where he gives the opinion that the auto noise reduction is too aggressive and he suggests some custom settings:

https://youtu.be/ArrAxJDF6Rs?t=910

Thought I would give these a try.

I think that works. It is a shot that doesn't make them look like a garbage bird.

FYI, on all my bodies (K-1 and K-3 ii), I removed the level of NR settings on all iso values below 800

here's some of my notes about that
ISO 100-800 = OFF
1600-6400 = LOW (1 bar)
12800-51200 = MED (2 bars)
⁃ Slow Shutter Speed Noise Reduction: Off (especially if you are doing timelapses at night, it will accelerate the processing when off)
- Auto iso parameters : SLOW (so the change in ISO increases as little as possible i.e. camera raises ISO very conservatively).

Since the K-3 mk3 has a better ISO capability, you might want to try expanding this to higher ISO values

I think there are a couple threads about this, this was one of them

It's not a failed shot. It's a "high key" shot.
Good point, it was intended that way from the start

Thanks - great seagull there, it's a nice style.

Hmmm. I wonder how well they'd work as a bear deterrent...

But doesn't that only apply if you're shooting JPEG, and if you're shooting RAW only they do nothing?
I've got all NR and lens corrections, and everything else all turned off, as I'm shooting RAW only, so no need for that to eat up time processing for the embedded jpeg preview (as I read somewhere they still all did the work, just worthless or something...)

Apple Blossoms Calling

Cedar Waxwings are a very soothing bird to watch.
Pass through the neighborhood each spring as the blossoms beckon.

Taken with my M*300/K1.

Gorgeous... unfortunately we had to prune back the favourite spot for Cedar Waxwings in my yard... have not seen any since. That M*300 delivers the goods!

About the best i could try for.

Cropped.
Good enough, Termy, good enough.
(It’s a shame the sky is not always cooperative, isn’t it?)
