Well here is what I managed from my stills from last night of the moon. I had enough where I could push the saturation some and get a fairly nice mineral moon:

The best 79 of 157 shots of lastnight's moon
SMC A* 400mm F/2.8 ED [IF] + SMC A 2X-L converter
F/11 (effective), ISO 100, 1/100s
Developed in RawTherapee
Sorted and initial crop in PIPP
Alighned and stacked using Hugin
Further processed in GIMP
NICE JOB! Thats some serious details there. Very cool image!

I would have liked to get more but the park closes at 10 and the county sherrif does come by and check, especially since that park is fairly close in. Tonight I went and took another stab and captured almost 4x the shots (446) so I can try again and this time instead take only the best 25% instead of the best 50% and still be combining more shots. This should allow even more detail. Also having 2 nights (might be able to make it 3) will allow me to see if I can figure out how to blend multiple nights to get an expanded terminator shot.

Thank you! I was actually about 10 feet away... but to be honest, It was shot through a piece of old
plexiglass at a zoo. I had to digitally remove some scratches and glare in Darktable. I was planning a trip to the everglades of Fl then covid happened...so zoo was best I could do... this winter I will hopefully get that trip in.

The zoo has several American Alligators but the only way to view them is through Plexiglass.

OK, that's comforting, and still a very nice image. Good luck spotting them in the wild.

That's a cool image indeed, though its a bit oversaturated for my taste. The extra images and the expanded terminator should be good. I'm looking forward to that.

That was to get the mineral moon, I usually don't push the saturation much if any but I figured I could give it a try given the number of "good" shots used.

I may be able to get another night tonight for 3 days of expanded terminator, assuming I can figure out how to combine each night, as I was out last night.

Thanks.
The K-3 Mark III has been producing some nice results lately with this lens combination.
Maybe I've been lucky :-)

Yup, I'd thought so already, with the saturation, and it would indeed be fun to see that expanded terminator shot. Good luck with the PP involved in that.

More with the FA 100-300mm

No's 1, 5, 7 are fullsized 1:1 crops - ultimate test of the iq the lens can deliver. #2 came out better than expected - the breeze was wafting the foxglove around and the focus was hunting like crazy.
There are also some flower pics etc posted in the FA unlimited club thread.

A beautiful shot. I found raptors are difficult to sneak up to at times for pictures like this.

After trying to combine 2 nights worth last night I found out that somewhere either some heavy pincushion or barrel distortion was applied to the images when I created the stack for each night when I did the alignment and stacking in hugin. Not sure which but it was bad enough that I couldn't get things to align. So this means I need to start over with the stacking of each night. There are other options I have so I can either provide hugin a hint (tell it each night is a stack) or try a number of other programs.
