Ah, thanks! I knew I'd seen pardalotes nesting in both, but hadn't noted the different behaviour between the two species.
Told you, Striated Pardalotes house hunting. Unfortunately this pair is checking out a penthouse, I will have to find some closer to the ground floor if I want a decent shot.

A brand new baby Lorikeet on it's first visit! Not the best shots, low light and too close.

Well after dorking around with things for way too long I have done about as much as I could with my almost 9 hours of shots from this past winter and spring of the Great Orion Nebula. With banging on it pretty hard I have managed this:

1576x20s
ISO 400 to ISO 1600
K-3 + astrotracer
SMC A* 400mm F/2.8 ED [IF]
Bortle 5 skies (suburban skies but are as dark as I can get with only a 40 minute drive)

The last 3 hours of images were collected with it being somewhat in the light dome of the cities but it was really my last chance to image it. The images were stacked in Astro Pixel Processor with some initial processing (star color correction, light pollution gradient removal, and sky color calibration). From there it was further processed in GIMP and RawTherapee.

Because we need more astro shots here I present my reprocessing attempt at M31, the Andromeda galaxy with almost 3 hours worth of shots.

497x20s
ISO 800 to ISO 1600
K-3 +astrotracer
SMC A* 400MM F/2.8 ED [IF] @ F/3.5
Bortle 5 skies (surburban skies the darkest close location to me)

The images were stacked in Astro Pixel Processor with some initial processing (star color correction, light pollution gradient removal, and sky color calibration). From there it was further processed in GIMP and RawTherapee.

Tamron 300 2.8

Sometimes you change lenses, and sometimes you change camera bodies.

K-3

K-1

It's interesting being able to use two different sensor sizes on the same mount. Double the fun.

I've seen better from others over in the astro group but my abilities are getting better. I am more proud of what I am able to get without actually using an equatorial and only astrotracer at 400mm. You might want to look back at the previous page to see my M42 (Great Orion Nebula) shot that I also posted. That one used almost 9 hours of shot over the last winter and spring. Both were shot with some fairly heavy light pollution as the Twin Cities metro area is rather bad and I was still in the core 7 county area, just the darkest spot. I would love to go out to a dark 3 location as there would be a dramatic improvement in sky quality and what I could capture. I do try tor realistic colors when processing and really try to bring out as much fine dim detail as I can so will usually push fairly hard and get more noise than others but it is a trade off.

Check out my shot on the previous page of the Great Orion Nebula (M42) also shot from the same spot but with basically 3x the exposure time so I could really push it hard.
