My daughter took my sigma 70-200/2.8 plus 2x TC on a trip so I went back to my film days and took out my series 1 70_200/3.5 and SMC -F 1.7x AF adaptor.

Seems to work just fine on an old aperture block failed K50

All shot at maximum focal length of about 350mm and either f5.6 or F8 on the lens

The sharpness is pretty good, but there seems to be a green colour cast?

Shots were JPEG’s I need to check the white balance, several may have taken in a green hue from the surroundings

To be honest I haven’t used this lens and converter combo since I got the sigma and 2x in early 2004

The camera was my daughters which I swapped her for my unused K7 when the aperture block failed. Never really checked the settings.

I’m thinking this might be a good low cost set up to put in a backpack when I go biking

Fair enough!

No worries. I certainly find that my Sigma lenses produce a different colour balance to the Pentax lenses.

Sounds like a great idea! I find that most of my Pentax cameras tend to get a green colour cast, especially if the "vivid" setting is used for the jpeg colour balance.

Recent shots with the K-3 III and DA*300mm + DA 1.4 x TC

Yellow Warbler

American Goldfinch

Great Blue Heron, juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron and juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Heron. The Great Blue and the Night Heron could well be the same ones Lowell Goudge posted above. The Yellow-Crowned is rare in Ontario, but we did get an adult in the same park in spring. In restrospect I should have opened up the aperture a bit more for the immature herons (standing a few feet apart on a bright day but in shade), but it does illustrate what this camera can do at ISO 6400 even when you have to do a significant crop.

Nice shots! Black Cockatoos seem to do a huge amount of damage when digging grubs out.

Nice detail for a heavy crop. It looks like the finch is standing in very clear water?

Yeap. It was rather clear patch of water.
They seem to be quite regular at that area.
Hope to snap them again, soon.
Nice-looking little birds.

I'm still really new to bird photography and long lenses but this most recent camping trip I feel like things are coming together. Helps being in a place outdoors for days and days and the wildlife gets used to you being there.
