On a different tangent. Got out my FA*600/f4 today and found what looks like a bunch of metal shavings inside. They seem to be in an area between some lens elements, not in the Diaphragm area nor the AF area. The AF works perfectly, no grinding or stickiness, there is nothing there.

They seem to be in the area where the lens flares out, if you look at the diagram, they are not just behinds the front element, but in the area after that, doesn't seem to be anything moving in there and it looks sealed from the rest of the lens, the shavings are loosely and freely moving about in there.

Anyone seen this kind of thing.

Looking around to see if there are any Lens repair places in Brisbane, or wondering if I just contact CRK and maybe have it sent to Japan. Freaking out a little..

Certainly worth calling CRK if you can’t find a local shop. I’ve had a DA60-250 (broken internal cam) and a FA43 (faulty rear element - replaced free of charge, thanks Pentax) sent back to Japan through CRK. Turnaround was a couple of months in normal times. Might well be longer in this COVID era.

That was my first thought too, but, it is definitely little bits of metal, as I turn the lens it all just rolls around in there, there is also some stuck on the internal lens element, and the black surface underneath is nice and black still.

I have actually found a place here is Brissy, F16 Camera repair ( In the PF database of worldwide repairers ) I spoke with him this afternoon, explained the Lens and the issue, I am taking it down to him in the morning for him to have a look at, he seemed pretty knowledgeable. Will see what he says, there is also another place out at Petrie I have heard good things about too. Will see what happens tomorrow, and make dissension about whether to check in with CRK, I just think CRK will go directly to the Japan alternative, and that may be a dead end. I have also heard from @termy and he's reminded me of an alternative source in Japan that may be a last resort. It's a special lens, I wont let it go easily.
