Katie with DFA 150-450.

Snapped at the minimum focus distance.
Couldnt go any closer even if wanted to.

Heavy crop.
(No Topaz involved. Natural background as rendered by the lens.
This was at f5.6. I was trying very hard, squinting, trying to make sure the focus was on the eye of this tiny lizard)

I've been quite busy recently, and no time to go out photo taking... not much in the way of wildlife today, but the close minimum focus of the A 400 is nice for insects.

What happens when you slap a 2x Teleconverter onto a 40 year old 500mm superzoom?

You discover just how amazing Pentax IBIS really is.

1/250 second, 1,000mm, and handheld with a K-70.

It doesn't hurt that I used the best parts of the hundred best shots to get around the atmospheric turbulence problem.

Also recent moon shots, no composite- just a single shot; cropped and sharpened (sometimes).

645 * 600mm with 645 2x; first two KP -two different nights, then QS1(600mm only no 2x) and Q .

Differences due to atmosphere and focus inconsistencies from night to night.

600mm x2 rig produces too large an image on the Qs for a "full" moon.

The second and fourth shots look pretty good.

The atmosphere is really a limiting factor with long lenses and shooting things like the moon. The only solutions I know of is to shoot a lot of frames and either stack the best or combine the best parts from each. As far a focus goes do you just manually focus and make a best guess in live view or do you use an aid like a bahtinov mask? I have a mask for my 400 that works great and it would probably work with your 600 too.

I agree, but I just don't have the inclination to do the back end work! So I just try for the best SOOC.
So far for focus, magnified LV - manual, but the KP picture posted above with the 1.4x and 450mm was done with auto focus LV- just to see what would happen. Worked ok.

I have Bahtinov masks ordered for the 150-450(86mm) and the 645" 600mm(128mm) filter rings. Will hopefully be able to improve focus consistency with the masks.
