Thats why my diy ones have two support points.
Precisely! If I can get them posted, here are two properly designed old tripod mounts, 1) a 200mm f4 SMCA ED Macro which has a hole for a video pin fore and after of the threaded hole, although they are a positioned fraction of a millimeter farther than standard spacing, so they require a plate with a slit for the tripod screw; and 2) 70~200mm f2.8 Tamron. Note that being a newer lens, the Tamy foot also has Arc-Swiss compatible grooves.

OOPS. Correction. I forgot that the tripod foot on the Tamron at this time was a Chinese-made substitute that had an Arca-Swiss dovetail rail. The original Tamron foot did not.

Another plate that might be easier to get in Britain as it is manufactured in Germany is this

Novoflex QPL-Panorama Quick Release Plate with Calibration Scales

It also has a well-designed anti-twist "backstop" but it is shorter (about 159mm) than the Sunwayfoto unit and it is four times the price ($96 USD from B&H) which is why I didn't mention it in my previous post.

Actually, the Amazon Global Store will supply the Sunwayfoto plate for £27, shipped from the US. The price is in line with the usual £/$ switcheroo plus postage.

Well, today I got my first juvenile Spotted Pardalote

But there's a problem.

In the first shot you will see Dad, white spots and yellow throat (mum/mom would have yellow spots and a beige throat).

Junior has white spots and a beige throat. So is junior a boy or a girl? My books don't tell me, they only mention female juveniles.

That's why I custom diy my own plates. This one is on a chunky pentacon 500mm f5.6.
ps you're uk shedking, I can knock one up for you.
Looks nice and compact!

I use some similar concept, bit bigger, from Andoer , the L200 long lens support Arca plate. It has screw mount on one side taking the lens head and an additional support bracket with wheels supporting the lens but still allowing the rotation of zoom/focus ring.
The extra lens support is height adjustable, can fit more lenses, sometimes you have to reverse it (there is a long or short side). Neewer and manfrotto have also long tele lens support plates ...

That looks like a good piece of kit mlag, there are lens + camera set ups where that type of rig will work best for sure - like when the natural position for the support is against one of the rotating rubber gripped rings.

If I read the CSIRO guide correctly, it would be a female...'lacks yellow throat'.

That's the Adult Female (CSIRO middle image). The Juvenile (left hand image) says: lacks red in uppertail-coverts; duller supercilium and crown spots than Adult.

Mine has bright white spots, red uppertail-coverts and no yellow throat. It may be an older juvenile male with the missing yellow throat indicating breeding age but it seems nobody knows. It's a bit of a puzzle.

It's been a while - I've been busy moving closer to work to take photos, so this is one from the summer. K1 with either the F*300 or the Nikon 500m F4/P

I should have just paid a moving company instead of taking a whole month to slowly move stuff on my own using a pickup and an SUV
