Ya gotta hang in there, Norm... eventually Pentax is going to release a 2x TC, and think how well that would pair with your 300/2.8!

Speaking of 300/2.8...
Really beautiful and an example why 2.8 still makes much sense and have nothing to do with high ISO capabilities of the sensors...

What I meant was, the lens is so good that it can handle the degradation in sharpness that one finds in an older 2x TC, although the one I used - Pentax Rear Converter-A 2x-S - is actually pretty good, better than the Tamron and Vivitar models I've tried.

I don't remember exactly - it has been 3 years since I made the photo - but close enough that I only cropped from the right side of the frame. I was sitting on a rock and shooting hand-held. The aperture of the lens f/5.6.

A couple of recent shots.

American Robin: K-3 iii, DA*300mm, no T/C (poor light)

Purple Sandpiper with the DA*300mm and T/C. Always found on exposed, rocky shorelines - and hard to see!

I already use a Tamron 2x MC7 on it for the K-1, but that TC is not quite sharp enough for use with the K-3.

Haha a bit morbid that - on another note, a fellow forum member just bought the A 400 I got from you, hope they get good use out of it and it enjoys its journey to the new photographer. Maybe we'll see some shots from them on here in time.
Glad to hear it got a new home.... I had to restrain myself from buying it back. The weight is such an advantage, and with focus assist, it's pretty easy to use.

I'm a bit sad to see it go, but I couldn't justify it sitting on the shelf when it should be used after I got the 150-450...

Some of us are accumulators and some of us hold on to very little. I agree that good stuff not being used is best passed on to someone who will use it.

That is a nice one. Looks like it hasn't missed many meals like the ones around me. Unfortunatly I usually see the ones in my neighborhood running after things like rabbits and squirrels.
