Yes, behind the house, there a field and a small wooded area that connects to some others near large crop fields, so they pass by from time to time... It's always a great surprise.. that pic was taken from the window.

Nice pic, Des! I have never seen that bird - very interesting markings. My friend in Melbourne used to go to Wilson's Promontory 3 or 4 times a year - I might send him a link to this pic.
I notice the bird has a tag on its leg

Thanks Peter. Hoodies are a charismatic but threatened species in eastern Australia, where they nest on beaches. There are huge efforts being made in Victoria and SA to improve their breeding success, through Birdlife Australia's Beach-nesting birds program (https://birdlife.org.au/projects/beach-nesting-birds). Tagging and monitoring is just one part of that.
