Originally posted by RobG Great shots! The only wild monkeys I've seen in Japan were the "snow monkeys" at Yudanaka in Nagano. The only other furry animals I can recall seeing were a squirrel at Enoshima and a Deer at Nikko (and of course the many deer in Nara). I thought I saw a Tanuki in Yamagata, but I am pretty sure that it was actually a fat and furry stray bob-tailed cat.
Thank you for your comment, RobG.
You are lucky to have seen a Tanuki (raccon dog).
This is a picture of a raccoon dog that came to my backyard.
