Fabulous shot! I've never managed to get that close to a Roller (the only kind we have in Australia is the Dollar Bird).

Some birds with the M300/4*, all handheld on my K-50

I remember going into a photo shop in Jasper and admiring the photographer's brand new M*300 in his padded case after he noticed the brand on my KX (film). A lens to drool over, for sure.

Yup, I'm happy with it for sure. There have been times where I wished I had an AF-long lens, but this works pretty good as well. Talk of drooling: That A400/2.8.......

Comings and goings... The sounds of Song Sparrows and Red-winged Blackbirds are now a common backdrop despite roller coaster weather. The winter duck (including Long-tailed and Greater Scaup) will be clearing out around the end of this month.

male Greater Prairie Chicken Tympanuchus cupido displaying on lek

Every spring, males gather together on traditional breeding grounds known as "leks" or "booming grounds" where each male defends a small territory.

First, he raises his pinnae feathers (long feathers on the neck) and tail feathers, inflates his bright orange throat sac, and lowers his wings. Then boom! The loud booming sounds made with their air sacs can be heard over a mile away. . . .

I've got lots of snowy pics, but not many in flight. Good work.
