One often overlooked advantage of a telephoto lens is that it can put some distance between you and something that might kill you (being in a tour boat helps as well!)

Nicely done Weevil. The expanse of bokeh in the background works perfectly in that image.

A wading bird to go with several others pasted just above. Greater yellow legs (50~500mm Sigma, original version)

Yes. One of the most widespread species of Crocodylus. Found along both coasts of Mexico and the Middle Americas, along the north coasts of South America on both the Atlantic and Pacific sides of Panama, on most of the Caribbean Islands including all over Cuba and Hispaniola.

Pic mineur / Downy Woodpecker [Picoides pubescens]
2019.02.23

Doing a power nap in front of the sun rays on that cold day!
Did you noticed that its plumage is darker than usual? Wondering if that a normal variation of its plumage, or it is just dirty...

Thanks Weevil. There's a bridge over the river that attracts a lot of tourists and they can get views of several crocodiles. We took a boat trip for birds so I was able to take this more or less at eye level. It's close to where the river empties into the sea. These crocodiles prefer fresh water but can tolerate some salt.

I purchased a Sony a7Rv this week and today received a Monster LA-KE1 adapter to connect my Pentax glass to the E mount. Here is a shot of a Downy Woodpecker using my DA* 300 and the Sony a7Rv. I updated the firmware after taking this shot so I am interested to see how the autofocus will work. It did pretty well using the adapter before the update.
