Two from the back yard. The grosbeak with Pany G9 + Oly 300mm F4 & Oly 1.4X TC. The little wren with a Canon 7DmII and Tamron 150~600mm (second version)

QUESTIONS: These are apples and bananas pictured = MFT + prime with TC vs APS-C + wide range tele-zoom at maximum FL. Is it clear that one has better IQ than the other?

Both look plenty sharp to me, but I'd favor the Panasonic for better bokeh.

Tricky in the nature of the background that is bokehed. The foliage behind the grosbeak was fairly uniformly lit by the sun. Behind the wren there were trees with high foliage so there were deeper shadows, dark trunks & branches with brighter sunlit patches.

The lack of detail in the red is what you'd expect from a smaller sensor camera. Reds have an amplitude that spans the edges of the pixels on small sensor. Pentax doesn't do as well with reds as Nikon or Canon, but they are still better than a 4/3.

The second has some highlights in critical places. I'm assuming that's the famous Canon lack of DR, only recently corrected in some of their MILC offerings.
