AWESOME shot....
I agree. great shot, even with a 600 it must be close to the MFD of the lens. That's one of the great things about recovery centers, you can get close

A trip up to the nature recovery centre in Coombs BC - A*600....
I wish I can get shots like this with my A*600. I have been struggling with it since I got it a few months ago.

Was the photo taken hand-held?

Thanks everyone and I took it with the 1.4 X-L converter about 30 feet away or so. I kept moving behind a beam, and the eagle would then bob around to try to find me (hence the intense look).

I do have mixed feelings about shooting at a c recovery centre, zoo or whatever. It seems like cheating but hey, I'm dragging a 4 and a 9 year old around with me on vacation, so you do what you can.

I used a tripod and the 3 second timer with a remote. The A*600 is horribly off centre so I also use a manfroto long lens support, but it raises the lens up and makes it top heavy so I have another issue with it wobbling from side to side.

I wouldn't worry about shooting at a recovery center, your attendance is part of the support they need to survive and preserve these birds. I have lots of shots taken at recovery centers or similar situations. They just don't count on my life list or reside in my birding library

The arca swiss plate I use goes almost up to the base of where the lens flares to become as wide as the front element is to combat the off center-ness. I need to get the other hole in the base of the tripod foot tapped so I can put another bolt in to ensure that the plate won't ever come off unless I take it off.

Thanks for the tips littledrawe. I do have an extra plate that I have been meaning to try but I would need to haul around my larger tripod. I think I'll try it though as this isn't working. I missed a golden eagle from the setup taking too long today. I miss a lot of shots but this one bugs me as I was close and the lighting was perfect.

I do have some wild shots and will post when back in town if they are ok....

That makes you even, both the bird and you are not 100%.

I thnk the second is a Solitary Sandpiper. Great shots both. Kingfishers are very difficult to get, they don't like us for some reason.

How are you finding your bigma? Worth getting one?

What a superb shot. I like the cloudy days where you can see all the details. Thanks for posting.
