With that 1.7 AF teleconverter are you losing 1.5 stops of light or less? The old formula I know is 1.4X tele = loose 1 stop, 2X Tele loose 2 stops. Someone recently wrote that my 1.5X tele from Kenko has me loose just over 1 stop, like 1.3 or 1.25 stops. I hope some one knows the answer to this question.

My 300mm f4.5 jumps to f8 minimum with the 1.7x

Exactly. I guess, at these prices, I can't afford in a thousand years. Guess, I have to be satisfied with 300/4

A*300/2.8 for about USD 1250 anyone?

Very sharp pics Tom. Could you tell us what were the settings when you took the pictures.
I find that with Bigma, in low light (cloudy sky or inside of the forest where all you get is filtered sun light), either you get shakes or soft images.

Siva,

Sure. I always shoot at ISO 100 with the K10 mounted on a monopod. Shutter speed was 1/200 sec at between f 8 and f 11. I always shoot with the sun at my back with this lens as experience indicates I’ll get the best results and less PF. As I recall it was mid afternoon and a fairly sunny day. I adjusted the setting on the K10 accordingly.
