Fantastic Kevin - just from looking at those 2 pics I am thinking it took a lot of patience to get them - well worth it!

That good shot for that lens combo ,you will need very good light to get the most from it as you lose a lot of light with the 1.7 keep them coming you going well

Is the DA* 300mm compatible with any teleconverters? If so, which ones that support AF? and which ones actually perform well.

Partially. It works only half way with TCs which are equipped with power zoom (PZ) contacts; e.g. the Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF TC and similar 1.5x Kenko PZ. Please note that Promaster PZ TCs do not AF (I tried with my DA*60-250, not DA*300, however).

Having PZ TC installed you have to prefocus lens manually first (most of DA* are equipped with quick shift override feature) and then obtain AF. Sometimes you have to half press the shutter button a few times before getting AF.

It performs very well with both the AFA x1.7 (expensive) and the Tamron 1.4. I had them both and have kept the x1.7 selling the 1.4.

You can find some testing I carried out here : https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/139941-lenses-...-x1-4-etc.html
