Finally I have some shots to share at here too.

I met this quite rare bird. (had to ask from my friend what it is, because I did not know its specie...)

Photos from a Sunday afternoon on the porch, cross posted from "Post your photos"

Pentax F 1.7 TC and Pentax A-400 5.6.

Sitting around on the porch waiting for birds is not a bad activity for a Sunday afternoon. Using the combo that gives me 680mm (over 1000 equivalent, lets me move a way from the feeder and look for them in nearby trees.

Male Evening Grosbeak

Female Evening Grossbeak

Red breasted nuthatch

There always seems to be Blue jays these days.

Really enjoyed the pics on this page from Travis & Norm. Also on the previous page from Travis, Derek and LittleDrawe, excellent action shots !

Repaap. The bird you have shown is a Black Tailed Godwit (in breeding plumage), there is slight local variation that it seems breeds in Iceland and a few localised islands. You can find it's IUCN listing here : Limosa limosa (Black-tailed Godwit)

Thank you for info Frogfish! It is quite rare visitor at my part of country, but we do have estimatelly 30-50 couples in Finland of these species. Seems like from IUCN listing that this bird does long distance flights, so that might be why I saw it around here too.

Bad Eagle at Ecomuseum

Went a the local "Ecomuseum" (small zoo in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Qc http://www.ecomuseum.ca/en ), and had fun on this overcast day (best IMHO)... here's a couple of close shots of a Bald Eagle (almost no PP, just a bit cropped for position, and a bit sharpened)

Noble birds they are...

I sat around looking for birds this morning... but this strange thing happened. There were none. All I can think its a combination of two things. One they are nesting and prefer to be close to their nests, two, the insects that feed songbirds etc. up here have hatched. The insect grubs are very high protien and abundant. I doubt birdseed compares to it at all in nutrient value. Even yesterday, I could see birds sitting still in the trees, feeding on something instead of coming to the feeder. Fortunately, a few days ago a hummer showed up at our window demanding we put the feeders out. He was very insistent, sitting on the other side of the glass, hovering eye height, looking me straight in the eye. I made some sugar water, let it cool and hung it out and he started using it right away. We went out shopping yesterday and bought hummer friendly plants for our hangers and porch pots. They've been feeding from them too. Today there are three, hummers, two different species. It's a good thing. There's hardly a bird to be seen around here. Later in the summer after the current insect infestation has died down maybe the rest of the birds will be back. For now, it's just us and the hummers.
