Thanks Tom.

I rather like the small beast. I don't mind the weight or the long focus throw.

I started looking for a T6-2X and a custom tripod mount to see if anything good comes out of that.

Andrei.

Yes....it's been a while since I have posted pics.....life gets busy but it's all good. 5 AM at Esquimalt Lagoon this morning and there was a ton of activity. Heron, Eagles, King Fisher, Sea Otters...and the best part...no people.

A300*/2.8

This lens is new for me and I am really enjoying it..but is it ever front element heavy even on a tripod!!!

A1200*/8

This king Fisher was enjoying a small fish....but with no light at 1200mm.../f8 any movement was blurred.....I was happy to get this one.

1200mm tracking flight....

Very nice bird pics here.

I am an wantabe bird photographer.
Much easier said than done.
I shoot with a K-7and 3rd party glass.
I am hoping the next generation of Pentax cameras are better at noise. I also have the Kx. It is in my opion better suited for this kind of work. But the features of the K-7 are better. But I am a die hard Pentax fan. And I think the K-7 proves what they can do. I think a scaled down version of the K-7 would be great 12MP with a noise threshold of the Kx.

Yellow bellied Fan tail. (700mm)

Common Iora (700mm)

Yellow cheaked tit (500mm)

Wow

I am so envious, you have the Tamron 300/2.8!! Of course most the other long lenses you own are too expensive for my budget(watched like a hawk by my controller, my wife) but I would love to have a fast 300 mm lens. Plus a fast 400 mm but beyond that I am happy with the relatively slow lenses I own at 500 and 800. Does not keep me from admiring your wonderful collection of long glass!!
Alan.

This may not be good news but I have seen a Tamron 300 / 2.8 sell for well under the average price of the 500 / 4.5 in the last 15 months. But that was just one unit, all the rest would have been well above the 500 / 4.5 which seems to be a very good lens for such a long , 500mm, focal length. I have a much cheaper Vivitar 500 / 5.6 which is a good lens but suffers from glare in bright sunlight and sometimes chromatic aberations but I can not afford to replace it so I make do with what I have now. I think you are fortunate to have such a nice collection of long glass, all you need is a 800 or 1000 mm lens or maybe longer. Enjoy!

Not that rich, I'm only 20 and just start to work. I spend hours to search for the good prices (I paid 309€ for my 300/2.8, 198€ for a well used 400/4, 300€ for my 500/4.5 (and found one today at 175€)), and spend my money only for photography (and food, gas, locative flat, of course). A behavior you can't have if you have a wife and children

I'll echo what others have said, that's a mightily impressive collection you have CarbonR! Out of curiosity how long has it taken you to find all that?

I would probably feel a lot more jealous than I actually do if I hadn't literally just walked in the door with a new-to-me K500/4.5. Since I understand it's basically identical to the Takumar version you have, any tips you'd care to share?

You are correct. Even though my children are grown they still look to us for help at times. Also a wife tends to watch what you buy, can be a good thing to keep one from buying too many lenses or bodies on the other hand it might not be all good when it comes to cameras. She does not understand the difference between a K100D and a K-x, Darn!
