The soaking wet mother was diligently shepherding her newly fledged chick and keeping a very close eye on me supposedly hiding in amongst the foliage .... from a distance (ca. 40-45m), since the chick decided a wire cable not 30m away from me was the perfect place to sit and watch it's mother's aeronautical display as she bombarded it to encourage it to keep flying !

Asian Barred Owlets.
I also like your pictures of power line hardware! I need some of those for my students.

we have a growing group of wood ducks in a small pond in our yard...prior to this year we never saw any...then started out with 1 pair...then there were 2...now i have seen as many as 4 pairs...they must talk with each other but just curious how the message spreads..taken with the q with qk adapter and sigma 500mm...theses guys are very skittish and would never let you get close before they fly away...this is a shutter speed of 0.6 seconds and o setting on the q-k adapter because these guys like to come in at dusk and dawn when there is no light

I know how hard it is to get these guys - they are just as skittish as our Great Blue Heron around here. Last fall we had a group of 10 or more that was nesting just on the opposite side of our river - just never could get close enough for a decent pic.

It's quite a feat to get a nice capture like you did of a wild Wood Duck!

The first one is incredibly well timed! Did you use burst mode?

I haven't had time to do much photography lately, but managed to get out for a couple of hours this morning. Both shots are with the A*1200.....
