Things have been picking up a bit on the bird front. Gangs of Robins, Grackles and Starlings predominate but some more interesting varieties make fleeting appearances. IDs have been something of a challenge.

Although it's not in its dramatic breeding colors, I was really excited to find this Indigo Bunting in the park.

I'm not sure about this pair: I think at least one of them is the female bunting. They were clearly companions.

A Flicker (with head ;~)

Mockingbirds have been largely absent--I had to drive out to the country for this one.

Also this flycatcher (Peewee?)

Catbirds have been regulars at home, feasting on the Virginia Creeper berries.

This guy (a vireo?) shows up for Creeper berries too but very briefly and moves very-o fast.

Love the sheepdog trials Keegan, there used to be a series of these on UK TV (many years ago !) and I loved watching them.

Great series and action shots. I would love to attend an event like this - amazing to see the tie of communication between handler and dog.
Thanks Kevin & Stan! I got a couple strange looks from family and friends when I told them what I was going to be doing instead of going to what they had invited me to, but I think its interesting. Its a pretty big event with a lot of vendors and exhibits on the same property for the weekend.

Travis missed by a day one of the chicks leaving the nest. The light was perfect, as was the subject. The bird was on the beach when I went down, so these are probably the first few flying operations that it has accomplished.

This impressive look was accomplished when it nearly fell off the post.

The remaining chick was trying to fly but couldn't quite do it.

Nicely done, Derek. I like the landing gear extended shot! Is it DA*300? It seems an osprey is back at "my lake".
