This is probably the best I've taken with the A*600/5.6 & A1.4x-L combination--the K-5IIs breathes new life into old lenses

K-5 and SMC A-400mm ƒ5.6

I've been lazy about shooting the A-400 lately, because it's just the same old birds coming to my feeder. There's no variety, blue jays, woodpeckers and chickadees. Then our bird feeder was clogged, nobody came for days, and we didn't realize why. It looked full but they couldn't get any seed. Finally I broke down today and just went out and took a few images. The same birds as always, the babies of the birds that have been here forever.... but hey, you can't shoot what isn't there. You guys will just have to suffer along with me here, with the same old same old.

If this is what you call suffering, I like to suffer all day, Norm. Very nice shots.

Boy, can I relate! Nothing but robins, mourning doves and sparrows here. I shoot to sharpen skills and then delete.

Wildlife - DA* 300

There are numerous small herds of white-tailed deer in the environs around Ottawa. Here is a lucky encounter earlier this year with the DA* 300 on an abandoned rail line. The focus is off by a smidge, but I thought that the three deer present an interesting picture.

Very cool, we live on the abandoned rail line that used to go from Parry Sound to Ottawa, but it's hunting season, and we're hoping no one sees any deer. We know there's a little one around, we just hope no one shots it. Great image.

Norm, Greyser,

Thanks for your comments.

Indeed, this line was part of the Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway system, dating back to the 1890's. The oldest rails I've seen are dated ~1932. Canadian National took over in the early '20s.

Travis and Ken, that`s some really nice work, guys!
It`s been quiet from my side lately but I just got back from a roundtrip in South-africa. I`ve shot lots and lots of game and birds so I`ll try not to flood this topic (too much)

This was taken with the sigma 100-300F4 with 1.4x TC (and no SR), the results were so good that the 150-500 never left my suitcase.

Thanks guys for the kind comments.

I'm not sure of other lens but the Sigma 500 F4.5 has the tendency to over-expose when shooting white or yellow color birds.

My sigma 100-300F4 has the same tendency when shot on bigger apertures, Ken. You also seem to have shot this with matrix-metering, which, imho, isn`t great for white and bright yellow birds.

Wait--this can be a function of the lens?! I'm always blowing out whites and yellows shooting outdoor sports with the Sigma 100-300/4 but I assumed it was totally user error.
