No way Man! I believe I am up there when it comes to experience with immature baldies and that is not one!! The size difference is quite surprising if you haven't seen them both in the flesh for comparison. The talons on the eagles can wrap around a soda can and the hawks cannot.
Immature #1

Immature #2

Red Tail Hawk shots for comparison

And an awful Golden Eagle shot cause its the only one I've got:
Beautiful exposures...

I would like to share these exposures. - Juvenile got fish, too.

Taken with K-3. Good AF function and tracking. I get more excited with this camera and got higher rate of decent pictures compare to K-5 (my opinion).

Attached are the series of Juvinile Bald Eagle in action.
It was close to me, about 20+ yards.

Thanks a lot and enjoy.

@crewl1 - Okay - thanks for the ID and I stand corrected. Sometimes bird ID is tricky - dark subspecies found west of the great plains - explains why it doesn't look like the Red-tails I see here in Ontario. Sorry for all the confusion on this!

@kulas3VII - great shots!

You guys might be interested in this quote today from Roger Cicala (Lens Rentals) on another forum:

I should be clear on why I ordered one (K3): my house backs up to a pond and I keep a camera and 400mm equivalent lens right by the back door to take pictures of the daily visitors: deer, ducks, coyotes, etc. I currently use a Canon 6D and Canon 400 f/5.6 for that purpose.

I tested Pentax K3, Canon 70D and 7D, and Nikon 7100, all with 300mm f/4 lenses against my 6D - 400 combination. The Pentax K3 with 300 f/4 was clearly and easily the best - so I bought it. (I tried the same test with the K5II a while back and the difference with the K3 was really impressive.)

Very nice eagle spots. The problem taking shots like that is staying calm while it happens.

OK, this was shot at 250mm, not 300… so sue me..

Today using the DA*60-250 on the K-3, (finally breaking away from the A-400) using as much as a 50% crop… the crops hold up quite nicely…

Today's visitor….

Downey Woodpecker..

Chickadee, maybe a 1/3 crop.

Blues Jays

Single Jay..

I have been away from this thread for a while, and I am overcome by the quality of the recent posts. I am inspired to bung my DA*300 on my new K-3 and get amongst it.
Great work boys and girls!

Harumpf, total scofflaw :~) Nice shots.

I'm glad you guys are enjoying your K-3s but I'm still in the OMG zone with the K-5IIs + Sigma1.4x + 500/4.5. Have to admit I'm jonesing for those extra pixies though.
