That's brilliant! As a former band master, I should have thought of that myself! But I didn't.
I did buy one of the Swedish Combat belts shown four or so posts above. Cheaper and stronger than the marching band belts - I think - plus extra pockets for taking stuff with you. I will give a try in a week and post results, along with the inexpensive gimbal on the short monopod.

I know a number of folks use a gimbal in combination with a monopod for their long lenses and I am wondering what the advantage is.

I have a couple of gimbals I use on my tripods but when walking around with a monopod I use a simple tilt head ( Manfrotto 234 modified for arca swiss.)

Would love to know if I am missing something, so those using a gimbal can you explain the advantage?

There is always this accessory. This company makes some good stuff, I recommend them.

T168 ? Monopod Holster Pouch

Thanks - probably another purchase if I cannot come up with another solution.

Same trip into the woods but this time by a stream. There was a large hawk overhead but I couldn't handle the 500 on a monopod quick enough. I ordered an inexpensive gimbal head for the monopod. However I did get a female Kingfisher. Both shots are large crops but the rig performed well.
Nice kingfisher shots! The deer were great too!

Definitely not the best deer shot in the world, but I'm pretty pleased to nail that one with manual focus.

More great shots! I do enjoy them all! You guys are really good!

Otis says find a fork in the tree and enjoy lunch on a warm sunny winter day!

Otis also says a "real" photographer would climb a 20 foot ladder trim that branch, then re-pose the subject and show every pixel of his handsome body. I never argue with Otis...but I'm off ladders for a while....I think I have learned my lesson for the time being.
Regards!

I put the A-400 on the K-3 to get a pictures of small birds, a bigger bird turned up, and it turned into a head shot.

A bit earlier with the 60-250 I got the whole bird.

Fantastic shot Norm....I've been trying to get a Chickadee shot for years, but have never been able to get one that I even considered decent. Those are perfect!

Regards!
