We see outstanding work here, and I know the effort that goes into getting close, the hours and persistence involved, as well as the ability to get the shot when it appears. Not to diminish what anyone shows in any way, but that is one of the most technically excellent shots I've seen. To catch this bird in flight, the speeds it flies, with exposure and focus right on, and to capture the stunning presentation. Great shot.
Thanks Everyone! I just wanted to clarify something. I didn't fill the frame. I cropped most of the photo off. The K-3 coupled with the Sigma 500mm F/4.5 has nice cropping power. Dropping the AA filter gives the shots better details.
I used Topaz Desoise to get rid of some of the noise and I did that by turning the shadows slider to one side for more aggressive noise reduction in darker areas.
I filled the frame with a Hooded Merganser a couple of weeks ago and the dark areas of that bird had great details on (both the light and dark areas) and no noise.
I met the man who designed Lens Align out there at the Viera Wetlands where have been spending some time lately. I almost reacted to him like he was a celebrity. I recommend Lens Align but it takes time to align a 500mm lens. He was trying to give me tips on how to cut that time down.
