At one point I got really discouraged because a few folks on the forum were pronouncing that there was a loss of IQ with TCs... but looking at the work of a couple buddies, half their wildlife images are taken with TCs... usually a 70-200 2.8 and 2x TC on their Canons. I thought "how can Pentax be so different?" And used with excellent quality glass, it isn't. My wife also loves it for macro used with her Tamron 90.
It is easy to believe with some of my postings using a K300/4 and the 1.7x AF adaptor, or my sigma APO 70-200/2.8 EX and sigma 2X TC

Norm. You just had to post a shot of Otis. Rupert will be so displeased
That's not Otis! Otis has super-sized equipment...everyone know that!

Great shots of the little Kingfisher Goubejp! Perfect!

Loved your shots Norm, always a pleasure to view...great little squirrel too!

I can't match you guys, but I did get a little Jay that looks as disheveled and confused as I feel today. After all the warm weather up around 80F it dropped down to the upper 40s today and it has ruined my day!

Regards!

Since this is the 300mm Plus thread I have only posted Q/Q7 shots done with my DA*300, but today I took the Sigma 70-200+Q7 out for a bit.
These would result in approx 900mm equivalent, but if they are not welcome here let me know and I will take them down.
Super shots Larry - you certainly have the Q+long lenses doing a fantastic job! And I'm sure that shooting @900mm more than qualifies for this thread.

Interesting information on the Allen's. All our Ruby-throated do is look mean and fight all the time.

Someday we'll have to discuss whether or not a Sigma 105 or anything longer on a Q is a 300 plus lens. Next time we have a quorum, I'll be sure and bring it up. No sense in thinking about it before we can make a decision. Next on the agenda would be whether a 200 ƒ2.8 should be included as well. Although some on here might consider a 200 to be a wide angle lens.

Maybe we should be focussed on the angle of view. 300mm on APS-c is 5.4 degrees. If it's that or more it fits right, unless of course it's my 60-250, shot at 250, just cause it's close enough at 6.5 degrees. What's a degree or two among friends?

Beautiful.

Another 5 minutes and I would have been quite a bit closer. 150-500 cropped substantially.

Ken,

Your work is so consistent good, when are you going to put out a book on your bird images? Even a scientific reference would benefit from your imagery!

Neat shot...neat shots! He looks like some exotic sailfish. Those are much better shots than I would have expected from that set up...very nice indeed!

I appreciate the nice feedback but on further thought those shots probably belong elsewhere like the bird forum or Q reach thread.
I don't want to needlessly start a debate as this is the 300+ lens club, not the 'DIY Tele thread'.
I will be pulling the post.
Thanks and sorry for the derail.

Wow. A real beauty Ken. As someone has pointed out, your images would go well in a good bird reference. I think you have enough to do your own entire bird reference...
