Wild mark: I would say first up that the light is poor and your shutter speeds are slow. Need better lighting conditions to test the resolution and ensure vibrations are minimised. Better as well to up the ASA to get eg 1/500th or more.
Second up the exposure needs to be consistent between the two pics. Clear difference, both look underexposed in fact but the first by perhaps a whole stop.
Third up, since the crops are the same size, need to know which is enlarged or which is reduced in size. There are two ways to go actually, playing with tc's. Take the pics at the same distance, enlarge the sans-tc pic to match the tc pic and compare the 100% pics side by side. As I say on one of my reviews:
Kiron Matchmate MC 2x Lens Reviews - Miscellaneous Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
"To TC or not to TC, that is the question?? A question I try to apply to a couple of Kiron Matchmates, 2x and 1.5x, and a Tokina RMC x2 doubler.
One point of view is that the goalposts have moved since vintage TC's like these were made. Back then they were competing with an enlarger, these days the benchmark is the quality obtained from resizing the image by resampling on the PC. Enlarging is the equivalent of clicking the zoom-in icon. Resampling uses mathematical algorithms to create new closely matching pixels to make the image larger. If the TC doesn't make that cut (of at least matching the IQ of a resampled image) there isn't really much point to it. .."
or alternatively it can also be a good test retreating back with the tc so that the image is the same size and seeing how close in IQ the image is.
PS in that review I link to check out the link to Bob Atkins on tc's and his tests.
