Thanks! Yes the vacation was excellent.
I did not make much effort for birding as there were other activities we wanted to do, so I can just imagine what kind of shots one would bring back if you actually tried a little.

Here a few more shots of the Mot Mot, such an interesting bird.

Rear view is most colorful.

Serrated beak and a forked tongue?

Just a quick update to my post a few pages ago (#12888) the Seagull with the two ganged hooks in it's Throat was released all ok today. Amazing how tough some birds are and others so fragile!

Not my photo…

Need a confirmation of species - figured most of those in the know fequent this thread - another new one seen today. As far as I can tell it is a Vesper Sparrow but not 100% sure.

Seen in the woods of NW Penna in July. Foraging in the forest floor litter. He will make 2 scratches in the litter with his foot, then hop two hops and repeat.

Vesper Sparrows are birds of grasslands and fields.

Immature Eastern Towhee

Rufous on sides not very apparent

Behavior
Eastern Towhees spend most of their time on the ground, scratching at leaves using both feet at the same time, in a kind of backwards hop. They spend lots of time concealed beneath thick underbrush. You may see this bird more often when it climbs into shrubs and low trees to sing.

Protein and berries. I remember preparing a novel cusine. I still haven't lived it down.

Recipe for those that want to try it.
Ingredients:
King Prawns (shrimp) and blue berries.

Stir fry the prawns with a little garlic in some cold pressed olive oil then toss with the blueberries. Season to taste. Accompany with a nice Chardonnay.

Bon appetite.

Another shot from Nikkor 300 f4.5 on K-5. This one was really difficult as the branches were swaying in the wind, making it extremely difficult to nail the focus (which is still not perfect here).

Thank you! The Towhee makes more sense since we have a couple adults hanging around. So it's not actually a new bird for us but the first immature one we saw.

I had 5 minutes yesterday to do what I wanted to do, so I went to Conowingo to see if I could capture an eagle. One did come out for a couple minutes. These are all with my new-to-me Tamron 300 f/2.8 + 1.4 TC f/4.5 (f/6.3 effective) on a monopod. The focus ring on this thing is very stiff, but smooth. All of these are significant crops, but still pretty far from 100%.
Manual focus with a heavy lens at birds in flight - fantastic job!
