What a day. Myself, Alistair and friends from the lower mainland went to see if we could find some grizzlies. There is a gravel road that runs adjacent to a river where the landlocked salmon spawn, and the bears come down to feed. The spawn has just started, no dead spent fish yet, but we counted 26 eagles on the route. We got to the end where the creek drains a lake, crossed the bridge and got out to wander around and have a snack. It was quiet, the spawning fish hadn't reached that point yet, so things didn't look promising.
Across the bridge are some fields, so I walked in that direction to see what was about. I was about 3/4 of the way across the bridge when some movement caught my eye. A grizzly came down the beach.
There was more movement behind, and two young cubs came out into the open. They were probably born in the spring and will stay with mom till next year this time.
I was still on the bridge shooting. They came up onto the road and started towards me. I backed up and got into the vehicle to watch where they were heading.
More to come.
