Looks like a few posts lost in the server change over.

Not quite the "birding" some of you are familiar with but a good test for my Sigma 135-400mm no less. A grid girl/brolly dolly at a motorsport event I attended last weekend

And one of a GT3 car taking off the line @ 320mm

Hi,
If some one has theTakumar 135~600/6.7 or its later version SMC Pentax, I would require a measurement on it to help me to repair mine. If you can help me, or know some one who could help, please contact me in pm

To summarize the lost discussion:
1. a grid girl is a human traffic cone. It's one of those roles created for women in the context of silly male diversions.

2. the Germans have a single 18-syllable word for grid girl which translates literally as, "wait here while I drive around in circles"

The photos are nice. The grid girl is demure. But is the car street-legal? (or should I ask, "Is the girl street-legal?")

SMC Pentax M 400/5.6

Haven't posted much lately. Managed a few images of some Downy Woodpeckers on this windy, cold and overcast day. Must be S. Ontario in December.

Agree--and it's an interesting pose, too.

Thanks Dave/Squier

I find the Downy a pretty tough subject as a rule so I took the easy road this time and offered up a suet sandwich as bait. As for the pose there is a Sharp Shinned Hawk which patrols the area and if you are a bird it is prudent to watch your back from time to time.

Flamingos

These pictures with the Takumar 500mm f/4.5 show one of the highlights of the morning drive to work. They come every year with the onset of spring, and usually congregate in large numbers and roam the Rietvlei wetlands as the pans formed by the winter rains dry and algae blooms. They have been coming in increasing numbers over the last 10yrs, and roaming closer to the Milnerton lagoon estuary.

Fair degree of cropping, but still very acceptable for the old glass. These at f/8 or f/11 to control the CA fringes with the high contrast edges of the flamingos.

General question about MF & old lenses

I am working into using many of the older glass that is MF with my K100D. I have learned to trust the "in Focus" indicator in the viewfinder. I believe that is called manual focus assist in my manual on the camera. I am considering which of the more recent Pentax digital bodies to buy in the next few months. I was really taken with the K-x and drooled about the K-7 both of which are getting into my price range. Of course the K-x is less plus it has more programs to assist my wife or me when shooting AF but I keep reading that it does not show any indication of being in focus like the K100D. It seems the K-7 does as does it's predecessor the K20D. My questions for the thread is if you have had the experience using the MF assist with a K-x, K-7 or K20D? I thought this might be a good place since many posters in here use MF lenses. Thanks,
Alan.
