After an unfortunate winter in Utah where the usual shooting subjects were in short supply then a relocation to the desert southwest that has provided far fewer things to shoot I've spent some time at Nellis AFB to catch the planes coming and going. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are based out of Nellis and apparently they train once a week so I put my camera to work.
Very nice! Please consider posting these in the "Aviation" group!

Thanks @RobG I'll check out the aviation group! I may have to relocate since my subjects lack feathers and interesting birds are few and fat between around me.

I don't think you need to relocate..... I think that the earlier post was just asking you to "also" post the plane shots on the aviation thread (which I didn't know existed!)... so by all means keep posting. Anything using the long lenses is fair game as far as I am concerned.

Any subject taken with a long lens is welcome here - in fact a few people have complained that the bird photos have taken over! I guess the thing is that one of the most common reasons for a long lens is to photograph birds, but personally I really like the heavier "birds" too. I haven't had the chance to photograph any planes recently, though.

I was being a little sarcastic but forgot to throw in the smiley face afterward. I shot a few gigs worth of photos that I need to look more closely at but I'll post some here when I get through them.

Nice cute bird normhead.

---------- Post added 3rd Mar 2014 at 07:04 ----------

2 migratory birds shot yesterday.
This week has been quite happening, from what I know there are a total of 8 migratory birds landed in Singapore.

1. Red Legged Crake

2. managed to shoot thru when the bird is hidden inside the bushes, at iso 6400

3. Mangroove Pitta - my 1st time shooting, so it's a lifer to me.

4. the back view to reveal the red color backside

all shot with DA*300

It isn't but we do have some really avid birders with lenses of 300mm and more. I love their posts, but there are some other things in here. Not even necessarily flying stuff.

Excellent photos, Norm and Ken. Shows what a high quality lens can do in the right hands.

What a neat little birdie! Great shots!

Norm...Thanks for that handsome little squirrel!

Cleaning out some old files I ran across this one I shot with the Bigma on the K10D several years ago. My best ever Black Vulture shot. These guys are not like Turkey Buzzards, if they can't find something dead to eat, they will attack small animals.....even baby sheep or calves.

Regards!

Really nice exposure for an all-black bird. You caught the highlights in the eyes well.
