DA*300 with HD TC. I think most of my softness was due to focus being slightly off, -1 adjustment. And movement blur. On a monopod the thing swivels very easily. We are getting a bit more light so I can up the shutter speed. The body meters differently, slightly underexposed. Focus is as good as the lens itself. I like the length, a nice sweet spot for what I shoot.

Nice shots and good info, I guess there must be a learingcurve?

I think Gary Chalker has a great selection of quality zooms. If I had my choice I would buy what he uses.

Stunning golden crowned kinglet! Did you tie it down? Anyone familiar with this species knows that it is never still; you have 1.5-2 seconds to find, line up, focus and shoot before they move. Chickadees are sedate in comparison. Great shot.

Pine siskin, Song Sparrow, Ruby crowned kinglet and Ruffed grouse at iso 3200. DA*300 + HD TC 1.4 on a K-3.

Here's a quick pic I shot in my neighbors yard. It's Iowa's State Bird the Goldfinch. For a state bird they are somewhat rare though. Unlike Nebraska's state bird. "The Mosquito"

I wonder if it would be worth my time to purchase a Katzeye viewfinder for my one and only manual focus lens the Tokina AT-X F4 100-300? I don't want to mess with shims however.

Thanks derekkite. For sure they are fast and skittish. You should see how many shots I have of empty branches or the bird taking off! The miss rate is high with these guys for sure, and they are really pushing the limits of the SDM focus on the DA* 300!
