Tried today with 1/8th power and a darker background, I think it will work with a third flash. F13, SS-1/180th
.

Hi Gary - these are simple amazing captures !! But I got the feeling that flash was used - was it the case ? Do you somehow setup them on location and then trigger wirelessly ? Or I completly went astray with that ? Thanks!

Yes I used Flash, but I wander around with the whole setup

Beauvais Lake, Alberta, Canada - The Osprey are back!

Claire and I went out for the day, and checked out the osprey nest at Beauvais Lake Provincial Park in Alberta. They were nest building. As we drove up, one of them was just landing with a stick in his/her mouth. I got one of one of them, and he/she wasn't too keen on the idea, so she skipped out. Both shots hand held with the DA-L 55-300 at 300mm.

I really like that second one a lot but I tend to like the classic poses. I'm glad you are using flash for birds of that size. Just a touch of flash makes all the difference.

I've wondered about how you frame that flash but I couldn't envision it in my head. I once had someone call the police on me when I had my camera. They were thinking I was some kind of sick spy. The police were cool about it.

Here is a shot hand held with the same lens. There is no eye contact but I like the lighting and the 3-D look it has. No flash was used.

A lens I used to own, Tokina 80-400, on my old K100D Super. Shot @ 400mm, f8, 1/180 sec, iso200.
