Just got my Pentax F* 300 in today. All I can say is Wow! Dare I say a 3D look to the pictures? Lighting here now is poor but here's a first quick picture of the neighbors dog.
I can't believe this lens is the same length as my DA* 50-135. I can easily fit this in my smaller Domke 5-XB camera bag.

The bee shot is amazing. The bird shot is tack sharp. The young girls portrait is absolutely stunning. I see no flaws in your work.

Congrat on getting the lens so quickly. I am sure you are itching to try the lens on something more interesting.

Derek, this has been a lot of trial and error but I think I have it worked out except for the background.
F-16, ISO 200, SS-180, 3 flashes set to 1/16 power and a lot of frustration trying to focus on these amazingly fast birds.
132-3 .
200
Wow! Very nice shots indeed.

Some photos from the DA* 300mm f4 + HD 1.4x TC... (420mm) (crossposted from the HD TC club)

All Handheld... All a f5.6 (wide open)

All amazing shots! How does the D*300+1.4xTC work? Does it focus quickly?

Very well balanced colors, deep and crystal clear.

Sorry, I'm not sure is it allowed link like this, but all is writen in bulgarian language and will be difficult to translate very soon.
Very nice shooting! Welcome to the club!

Just a few comments after reading your review. I do shoot Sigma 500/4.5 (approximately the same 3kg as DA 560/5.6) 99% handheld. I was shooting FA*300/4.5 for a few years before; both standalone and paired with fine 1.4x TC. Today I do prefer having 500/4.5 all the time for my outdoor walks. The way how I carry and handle it is a bit different, though. If you are interested, send me PM and I reply with a link to another site for some details. So, my 500/4.5 is almost welded to K-3 body. And I usually carry K-5IIs with DA*60-250/4, FA*300/4.5, or Sigma 180/3.5 Macro as a 2nd body. The biggest challenge is how to carry these rigs comfortably enough. But, I think, I cracked down the riddle, at least for myself.
In the city I would agree DA*300/4 is a winner. However, I prefer flexibility of DA*60-250/4.

Next thing I know I sense something watching me, and looked down to see a buddy checking me out from not too far away. Stay alert out there.

The bird appears to be about a foot in front of the branch, not under it.
Very nice ears, Larry

Tried a new background today and think I hate it. Tried to find a green sheet to no avail, sometimes it sucks living in a small town.
These captures are stunning! I would not get so caught up in the background. I wasn't even that aware of it until I read your caption.

First tests with the 1.4TC and the 250-600mm

I was a bit lucky to nail them...

Using my heavy Meyer Optic Orestegor 300m F4 for sports... Pre-focussing required... Also doing sports myself by hand-holding this beast a couple of hours. I think I used F5.6 here

Well done! I had pretty much decided that it was impossible to catch swallows in flight. Now I see I'm just inept unlucky.

Cedar Waxwing

Great shooting again everyone. Here is a Cedar Waxwing from a recent outing. This is one of my favourite birds, common but somewhat elusive and very photogenic. K3, DA* 300 and HD 1.4X TC handheld.

A local favorite of mine too and--by coincidence--I saw my first of the year yesterday. You did a good job getting detail in the plumage.

So I didn't lead you astray?

As someone mentioned somewhere it's probally the only lens I'd consider having two copies off....just n case.

Some from last Monday, testing the 250-600mm f5.6 with the HD TC

this one a bit far... heavy 1:1 crop

Good results, but minimum aperture is f8 with the TC !
