It was a little cloudy, and I wanted to mimic a long exposure to minimise that without having to track the moon, which moves remarkably quickly at 2300mm FF equivalent. Also I have found that focus is surprisingly critical, so re-focussing for each shot and averaging it out in ZereneStacker improved overall resolution.
I'll have to try that. I have a 500mm mirror lens and it would be interesting to compare a properly focussed shot with something from the DA*300. The EXIF data was lost in the process of stacking - out of interest, what ISO, shutter speed and aperture did you use?

I have deleted the contributing raw files, but they were about f/8, 1/400 and ISO125 if I recall correctly.

I'm always envious when checking out this thread. It's at least 80% fantastic bird shots, of gorgeous birds I doubt I'll ever see

Here's a little Rufous from yesterday

More pics with 31A

Beautiful day, took out the big boy, 31A adaptall 200-500mm. On the south side of the castle is a charming bowling green, with an inlet off the main estuary.

A pair of swans reside here and this year they have 8 cygnets. They like to cruise up and down the inlet in formation.

Visiting primates take the high ground...

Oyster Catchers like it here too.... hey guys no hanky panky in front of the tourists... well really .

Meanwhile -OMG! cannibal gulls!. Or maybe not, looks like a dead pigeon, probably roadkill. What he really wants is some chips (fries) to go with...

A few from today. I got wet as did the camera and lens. My only issue was my glasses and the viewfinder being so foggy that I couldn't see. AF worked just fine.
A Veery.

As promised in post 12286, (belatedly): comparison 100% crops Kr + Tamron Nestar 400mm (top) vs Lumix G2 + Tamron adaptamatic 300mm (below), both therefore 600mm equivalent. Similar pp from RAW. Obedient Little Egret hung around near the hide.

Overall the adaptamatic showed more PF and is IMO softer at f5.6 than the Nestar at f6.9 (both were wide open), but both images are pretty pleasing with quite a lot of detail.

Addendum well they are 100% crops but they've been auto resized. I have converted the images into links to view full size.

Finally got a decent shot of the Road Runner at my in-law's last weekend. This one has been sneaking around but always finds me when I don't have my camera.

I also got another glimpse of the Golden Eagle pair that hunt around their property. One day I'll get close for something good.

Love the road runner, haven't seen one in the wild for quite a while. Got to get back to the SW desert soon!

Feeble attempts? The first shot in particular is brilliant! The last one is blurred, but considering the circumstances that's probably not surprising.
