Manual focus with a heavy lens at birds in flight - fantastic job!
Thank you! Having a pistol-grip head for the monopod helped a lot.

What was amazing was seeing a Martin Mars Bomber scooping up water for fire fighting. The last one retired last year. Huge four engine monsters. We used to have several of them here in British Columbia. Unfortunately it is fire season right now, and we have a number of evacuation orders in British Columbia, Yukon and Alberta.
I know how that feel ,we live in the blue mountains and went through a big fire not so long ago ,i know at least 4 people that lost their home , and i had my gear pack for a quick getaway if needed , thankfully the wind change and a big effort on the bush fire brigade , i guess we dont have the big water areas like you do so it helicopters around here .

That is one of the best exposures of a black on black bird I have ever seen.

Wow man! Thanks! What a great compliment. I was hoping it was going to be good when I took the shot.

Cheers Mate!

I owned a great copy of a Sigma EX DG 100-300mm f4 for a long time, it was my go to lens for wild-life photography (my Da* 50-135mm f2.8 sadly got no attention once the 100-300mm came along). It served me well over the years but when i saw a listing on eBay for a Sigma EX DG 300mm f2.8 in KAF mount I was intrigued. I messaged the seller, a birding enthusiast and retired gentleman that on PentaxForums goes by the username "garyk" and we spoke at length about the maintenance and performance of the lens. I've only had the lens for a few days but I'm completely enthralled with its performance. I wrote a brief review of this lens on experience so far in the database.

How about the Pentax-F 135mm f2.8 (IF)

Thank you kindly.

I know this is an 300+ telephoto thread but you gotta admit the Pentax-F 135mm f2.8 (IF) has great IQ, Bokeh, and fast AF action ( although bad CA at large apertures)

Some shots with my Auto Sears MC 300mm f5.6 (made by Tokina) and K-30. It takes f16 for it to be really sharp and minimize the CA, but my copy is mint and only cost $25, so I love it. I like the colors from this lens. It has a film era look to it.
