Joining a Cormorant party...

This is one of my favorite birds too. I like their medieval look and unusual blue eyes. I like how they gang together for fishing; very often together with pelicans. I like their seamless smooth dive, their huge fins, the way how the wash, groom and dry themselves, and so on, and so on.

Couple shots from last Sunday

Poor guy lost a fish in a moment

This one got luckier. The fish was big enough that did not fit well

Wow, they make good subjects for photography, but man, they eat lots of fish !!! I don't like them in my fishing spots...
let's say, 15 years ago, they were not present around here, now there 's a ton of them all around emptying my fishing spots !

Well, then, here's a shot I took 2011 with the Sigma 100-300 in Guangxi China. Those are working birds.
That guy looks like he is checking his cargo before he shoves off in the raft!

I guess I'll join the party - here's a couple for Stan - taken almost a year ago using my K30 with my Tamron 200-500mm lens at 500mm plus the Tamron 2x TC.
A tree full - that is just awesome! That was another thing I thought neat about these guys is roosting in the trees - and the fact they have claws on their webbed feet. I also learned since then that Wood Ducks also have those claws and will get up into the trees.

I've been shooting shorter focal lengths at my feeder lately but here's a couple of DA*60-250 + 1.4 TC images that qualify,

Rented the DA* 300mm to see what it was like to shoot with a long lens... It was hard at first to figure out how to steady the lens and it was too shady for the most part, leading to need for high ISO. It was a very different experience as my longest lens was only upto 135. Lovely lens, wish it was not so expensive, but I can see why it would be...

Cool ! keep experimenting ! You are lucky to find places where they rent Pentax gear... there no such thing around here ...

I just found a good thread on stabilizing the camera that might be of interest...

Thanks. I knew there were some links/threads related to holding the camera steady but until I actually was out in the field I did not realize how much more difficult it was than using the 50-135. Need to practice more to be comfortable with it.
