The moon caught my eye last night also. Here's my hazy 400mm Sigma AF 5.6 in action... cropped of course.

Nice ... really like the blue and grey. TFS, J

Bohemian waxwings. Last of the year, a pretty good year. The range and quality here is amazing and inspiring.

Happy new year to all!!🎉🎉🎉 I'm fairly new to the long lens crew. I know that the new telelconverter has a good rep on the DA*300...Does the HD TC perform well with the old F* 300?

Just get Vivitar Series-1 screw driven 1.4X AF TC and save $500.

The Vivitar is an identical clone of the well regarded Tamron 1.4X Pz-AF TC with no PZ-contacts implemented. I used to shoot the Vivitar/Tamron + FA*300/4.5 combo very successfully for a few years in the past.
There are a few old posts below. Some links do not work anymore, however.

Chip, thank you! I'm very thrilled with this lens. The photo was taken in less than great light; so I was very happy to see it's performance! I find, handholding it; that by holding the tripod mount on the lens works very well!

I want to get a very small portable blind to setup, to be able to get more shots of birds.
