They aren't shot with Pentax...lens or camera.

If that's the case, I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say they were shot with a Polaroid One Step?

I'm pretty good at guessing photographic equipment if I do say so myself. And I do.

A few from today. The beaver will let you get quite close; this video is uncropped using the 500mm. None of the photos turned out; there were too many branches. While I was watching the otter came out from the rocks.

Great shots but I hear stories that the beavers can be dangerous so watch out.

This is my first post in what I consider to be the most dangerous place on PentaxForums-good long glass is $$$$. I'm starting out on training wheels, with a DA 55-300mm HD WR used with a K-5, K-3 and Q7. Here are some shots with the K-5/K-3:

European Starling, Adult transitional

And here are some shots with the Q7:

Snowy Owl Scans

The Q7 shots are noticeably softer but I've still got to practice and maybe also accept the fact that I've got to trade in the monopod for a tripod in the field. Or I should just suck it up and get the DA300 + TC.

See, I told you this place was dangerous!

Want me to add the 300* and TC to the shopping cart and give you the link, or are you going to do it?

Welcome. Great photos!

Resisting the DA*300 + 1.4x is absolutely futile!

Long tele wildlife will always be challenging. But for me... I found the outlay is worth it just to remove the frustration factor. The proportion of keepers with this lens/TC combination is much bigger than other options I have tried in K-mount.

I hate to break it to you, but you won't be satisfied until you get a 500 f4.5. This is an EVIL place.

I came to this as a long time birder, finding it easier to record and share my experiences as digital technology and then DSLRs came along. For me there's a point at which the photographic equipment gets in the way of the agility you need for birding, use of a telescope etc. I recently graduated from the DA 55-300 zoom to the DA*300mm and 1.4x teleconverter. While I can see the advantages of greater reach that's as far as I'm prepared to go at the moment. I can't be the only conflicted birder/photographer out there!
