I know this question is personal choice but I really torn on weather to get a *300+TC or a Sig 150-500. I read alot on here that the 150-500 isn't that great past 400 and I would have to say most of the pictures on here would back that up but a see alot on Fliker that suggest otherwise. I know at 300 the Da* would probably blow its doors off but what about at 420?

I haven't seen anything from the 300+TC to convince me it's worth twice as much as the 150-500.

Thankd for the Bigma to 300 comparison links. I head read the other ones but these other ones settle the debate for me. Their close but I think I'll go with the 300+Tc and crop if needed. Plus I can use the Tc on some other lenses!

I would say that it depends where you live. I used the 150-500 on the k5, the DA*300 was awful for focus on that body. Everything you use has limits, and the 150-500 needed lots of light. F8 or higher. The focus speed is nice as well as the OS in lens. I found that I couldn't use it outside of the four months of bright summer. I like shooting small birds in the bushes and it is too slow. For birds in flight in the open it is great.
The DA*300 is very sharp and close focus, but you will yearn for something longer. The TC works pretty good. I'd wait to see the reviews on the new long zoom. If you time it right for a few hundred dollars more you might be able to get one.

Haven't had time to take many pictures lately let alone post any. So here's a few out of the front yard from the past few weeks. All taken with my A*300f4 on a K5II.

I hope spring migration comes soon!

420mm

800mm. For some reason I like its crazy eye.
Still waiting for my tripod head so Im not sure what needs tuning the Sigma or my technique.

That juvie looks so gawky and adorable. I prefer the juvenile baldies to the adults

I saw my very first Great Grey Owl today! I was excited to all heck until another photographer flushed it and it flew at my head - I'm so scared of raptors
