I would agree that owl looks pretty healthy. Great pictures Gary, as always!

I have followed an owl with a similar eye issue for several years. When I first saw it as a owlet, I was worried and wondered if it would make it?

(Disclaimer, the following pictures are for demonstration purposes only and not worthy of the 300mm plus lens club)

Happily, it raised and fed two owlets of its own last summer.

I last saw it two weeks ago with its mate on a new nest.

Looking carefully at photo #2, I'm with you on the coloboma, but I think there is also vertical alignment difference. And it seems the owl can compensate well enough. Interesting! Not to mention some nice pictures.

Amazing, when I saw that, before I saw it was you I thought, "SA". The Stobie poles with pitchfork 11kv assemblies and the angle pole with single disc insulators with a pole mounted transformer. And the sun above the low hills looks just like one I got across the water at Victor from Granite Island and used as a computer wall paper for several years.

So evocative of home.

All part of the Genus Gallinula. Our common gallinule was lumped in with the Old World common moorhen, but in 2011 it was decided that it was a separate species.

House Sparrow I would say. House Finch has a plainer back and blurry streaks down the front.

Yes, it's a snake. I think I posted this alternate view a few gazillion pages back. I've also seen it carrying a squirrel, but I was not quick enough to get the shot. Hopefully, I can get some incoming prey shots now that I've found the nest.

Looking carefully at photo #2, I'm with you on the coloboma, but I think there is also vertical alignment difference. And it seems the owl can compensate well enough. Interesting!
