that's why I generally shoot handheld, as a tripod just doesn't move fast enough to get the shots.
Pretty much the same reason I do too. I like walking through thick trails or making my own trails. Sometimes, there just isn't room for a tripod, or a tripod slows me down.

Haha. That's just the DA 300*. No TC. It's not cropped either. That bird just flew up and landed on a hand rail beside me and stayed long enough for me to get a pic. Rather than moving to recompose and taking a chance of it flying away, I just shot where we stood.

Luck you indeed! Nice work so far! Looking forward to the pics from your trips.

Thanks rockstarr

No, I work with JPEG, not raw. Here is one I just took @F5.6 -400 ASA. The second one was a heavy crop. Still handheld.
No problems with grain there.
I use Faststone a lot when I just want to buff up a jpg a bit - practical and free!

I also use Faststone, and really like it much better than my PS Elements. I know Elements has more capability, but I've stuck with Faststone.

That's it. Tomorrow is the first day in about a month that it won't be in the teens or lower in the morning. With temps in the 40s this week the ice will be breaking up on the rivers. Time to try and get some good duck pictures before they disperse. Even if I have to stand in knee deep snow to get them.

Yep, it's going up in the (f) 50's tomorrow and my bet is that we're done with frozen precipitation. It's had its moments but I'm ready to move on.

Very nice work here.
Here's a recent of mine.

Short-Eared Owl
Ontario, Canada
K-5 - Sigma 150-500
Excellent catch, Rex.

It was a nice day out with above zero temperature. I went out to a local trail to check out the birds but didn't see much except this woodpecker on my way back to the parking lot.

This was one of the first wildlife photographs I had taken with the Ist DS after that I started to use the DS over the ME & ME Super for wildlife.

I love photography, but I don't make enough money out of it to justify $8000 on a lens!
