Wow, a whole lot of shooting goin' on! Great work, guys!

It's been slow here--for some reason, birds (especially raptors) are scarce right now. I figure things will pick up when the early fall fruit becomes available.

I had to go downtown to get these urban ospreys:

I purchased an SMC K 300mm f/4 lense, and while it isn't here yet, one of the common remarks is a lack of tripod collar...

any suggestions on one? I've read that a 65mm (or is it 72mm?) collar will work, but want to verify...

Very nice Travis. I suppose the AF might be better but otherwise how do like the D7100 vs the K-3? I find my hand cramps after awhile when holding it.

The d7100 is a nice camera but the K-3 trumps it in everything except AF-C.
I hope Nikon makes the D-400 this year.

I never have the time to get good photos, but I snapped a few yesterday. I was on the wrong side of the light with a lot of these, but it's better to get photos without the best light than to scare the bird away by moving around, I suppose.

The first three are with the Tamron SP 300 f/2.8 + 1.4X teleconverter. The last two are the same lens with the standard 2X TC that comes with the 300. It's really difficult to get good photos with the 2X — aside from issues of focus & stability, the loss of contrast is significant. All K-5. Most on a monopod.

The least concern White-breasted Waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus), a waterbird of the rail and crake family Rallidae that is widely distributed across Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. They are dark slaty birds with a clean white face, breast and belly.

Nice shots. It seems interesting that the bird is standing cross-legged.

Hi guys,

Looking at the recent posts here I see tons of great shots. It is also a definite step up in IQ in the tread. Good job, really!

I had some family business to deal with in early 2015 (nothing bad though). I totally missed this spring migration season. My last birding session before disengagement from my hobby is dated by mid-February.

I hope I'm back. There are a few shots from two recent birding sessions. Nothing special, though. However, I accidently got American bittern in flight (thought it was a green heron at the moment). The shot is not perfect, but it is my very first shot ever of this profoundly sounded but very shy bird.

The American bittern in flight

Geese aerobatics

California style? Happy Egyptian gees family: chicks in August (can you believe it?)

Belted kingfisher in flight

"Green" on green

Proud to be vegetarian!

Common Tern: very rare guest at our local lake

Poor Woody: not pretty but still colorful. I guess that is how males molt into breeding (or alternate) plumage in the fall
