geomez, did you use a long lens just to stay away from the sharp needles?
I would have!

I enjoyed your image - sometimes the part can be more interesting (etc) than the whole.

That is the osprey chick. Red eyes and light colored highlights on the feathers. Great shots.
Thanks for the correction.

really like #1 and #4. Very good!

The first osprey looks to me more like a youngster. The mature birds usually have lighter yellow eyes. The young ones - darker orange.

Good shots, anyway
Thanks, Greyser.

Not sure what kind this one is. Tokina 400mm on the K3 with AF 540 flash using a soft box. Photographed at our local gardens and sculpture park indoor during their annual exhibit.

A couple from yesterday.

A young green heron in an interesting post as if saying: what have I got under here?

Green frog just hanging out.

Not really. The cactus was off the trail I was on and only accessible with a long lens. I live in the Sonoran Desert and I really don't mind getting all up into the cacti to get a pic. The key is avoiding the glochids (thin, small, hair-like cactus needles that are seemingly impossible to get out of your skin).
Oh, and thanks.

Staying on the aviation theme, I hope you'll forgive some x-posts from the DA* thread. First two are DA*300, with the third being DA*300 + 1.4x DA HD TC.

Thanks for looking

On the Hunt

Yesterday I was able to watch this Northern Harrier while she hunted. Amazing to see their aerial ballet.

Those are fantastic! I've only ever seen them for a few seconds before they disappear. Well done!

Thanks Halfspin - it was a treat for me, there was just a light wind and she would almost hover with the air current while slowly working across the grassland.

Last year in September I took the following image of a raptorial bird in south tyrol / dolomites - Seiser Alm.

Some of you seem to know a lot about birds. Any idea which one this is? - Sorry not exactly 300mm but 294mm (Vivitar Serie 1 f/2.8-4.0 70-210 Macro + DA 1.4x TC):
